Runner stories- 1- Dr Rajkumar
We are starting a new series on the blog featuring runners from various walks of life. This is just to give an insight into the world of running and how it transcends age, sex, past running experience, health and other factors… These are a few who truly inspire us and others around them..
Kick starting the series, today we have Dr Rajkumar who is by profession an Oncologist. Apart from his dedication to saving lives, he is a passionate Runner, Cyclist and Trekker as well. Here is what he had to say when we quizzed him about his life and the role running played in it..
- How long have you been running?
My running journey began in September 2012 with Coimbatore runners.. It has been a fun experience so far and I look forward to the morning runs!
- Why do you run?
Running to me means many things- It not only helps me stay fit, stay energised, but also helps build friendships and creates a positive+ “never -say -die” attitude within you.
- Your Advice for new runners?
If there was one thing I could share with those eager to kick start their running journey, it would be “Find your own pace and run for the joy of running. Set achievable, realistic goals to motivate yourself and pursue them with discipline and grit. Remember, running is about perseverance day in and day out and the benefits you will reap both physically and mentally are unimaginable.”
- Where is your favourite place to run?
I can run “anywhere”.. as long as there is a path and I have my shoes with me. But if I were to pick a particular place, it would have to be in and around race course area. This is my favourite spot as it allows me to meet my running buddies. Having a quick/small chat in the morning with them boosts my energy levels keeping me going through the day.
- Finally, do you enjoy Group runs or Solo run?
I prefer running with one or two buddies rather than a bigger group.Sometimes solo runs are good too, to introspect and gives me a chance to listen to some of my favourite music when I run.
